Well, yes, that’s not really what “trifecta” means, not exactly, but here’s another group of three things all bunched up in one post:
1. THE BOOK OF BLASPHEMOUS WORDS, a prose anthology for which I sent a poem, er, “story in verse” instead (cf. February 4, January 27, et al.) has appeared in my mailbox. Not surprisingly, my “Tit for Tat,” originally published in James Ward Kirk’s 2015 anthology GHOSTS: REVENGE, is the only actual poem in the book, but the editors agreed with me that it seemed a perfect fit. Further info can be found here.
2. MOTHER’S REVENGE, briefly noted below in Saturday’s triplet re. my story “Swarms” (see April 8, et al.), looks now as though it will slip past its previously announced April 22, Earth Day release, but hopefully will be at least available for pre-order then. More on this as it develops.
3. To quote Editor Jay Hartman of Untreed Reads Publishing: You may have heard that Microsoft is launching a new ebookstore. This will be part of an upcoming Windows 10 update, and folks will be able to purchase from the MS Digital Bookstore to read on their PC, laptop or tablet devices (like the Microsoft Surface). I’m pleased to say that thanks to some of the distribution partnerships we have in place, all Untreed Reads titles and those of our distribution clients will be available on the Microsoft platform at launch. My books in this batch are short story chapbooks I’M DREAMING OF A. . . and VANITAS and the novelette PEDS, all three of which (along with the anthology YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR, with my lead story “Appointment in Time”) can be found/ordered right now by pressing any one of their pictures in the center column, while more background on the new Windows 10 outlet can be found here.
Beginning now (March 3rd) through March 11th, we’re offering 30% off every single ebook title published by Untreed Reads throughout The Untreed Reads Store. VERY IMPORTANT!!: There is no discount code for this promotion. The 30% off will automatically show up during the last step of the checkout process. . . . Remember that when people purchase through our store they get EPUB, PDF and Kindle versions for just one price! Plus, they can gift a title to someone or send an ebook directly to their Kindle. So begins the announcement from Jay Hartman of Untreed Reads Publishing, home of two stand-alone short story e-chapbooks by me, the steampunkish-mystery VANITAS and Christmas horror I’M DREAMING OF A. . ., plus my dystopic science fiction novelette PEDS. To take advantage, press the picture of any of these in the center column and, as an extra, you’ll also find the New Year’s Eve anthology YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR with its opening story, “Appointment in Time,” also by me.
So what’s the occasion? According to Editor Hartman: Every year, the ebook world celebrates Read An Ebook Week, and this year is certainly no different! This year, the dates of the event are Sunday, March 5th through Saturday, March 11th. Also, he points out, although the discount is only 25%, PEDS and I’M DREAMING OF. . . . are also on sale at DriveThruFiction from March 5 through 11, which can be reached by pressing here. No coupon code is needed for either sale, though the one directly from Untreed Reads seems the better deal.
One final note for 2016, DISTURBED DIGEST (see December 6) arrived New Year’s Eve with my poem “Zombie Trouble?” in it. Also Jay Hartman of Untreed Reads Publishing has announced a special sale through Saturday, January 7, via DriveThruFiction for their New Year’s Eve-themed anthology, YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR (cf. March 19, et al.), with my lead-off story “Appointment in Time.” The sale, which reduces the price from $4.99 to $2.99, is only available on DriveThruFiction and must be reached through a special, one-week-only link, for which press here.
Yes, thirty percent off, and according to Jay Hartman of Untreed Reads Publishing, this is for all titles (well, excluding teen and YA) in both horror and mystery categories. This includes two by me, both holiday related by matter of odd coincidence, my Christmas horror stand-alone short I’M DREAMING OF A. . . . and the Untreed Reads anthology YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR which has, as lead story, my “Appointment in Time.” Prices are good till the end of the month with discounts for both the above reachable by clicking I’M DREAMING’s picture in the center column or pressing here. Or, to check all Untreed Reads’s discount volumes including mystery (but not my VANITAS, even if reprinted from ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S MYSTERY MAGAZINE, since, with its steampunk overtones, it’s published in their science fiction line), one can press here.
Then DriveThruFiction will also be having a thirty percent off horror sale the last week in October, including titles from Untreed Reads, with ones by me found by pressing here. While ones actually discounted won’t be known until that final week, the listing you’ll see includes the two horror titles above, plus several published by Popcorn Press (CTHULHU HAIKU, ZEN OF THE DEAD, etc.), a GREAT TOME, AMERICA THE HORRIFIC, and two crime books that I have no part of.
Yes, another month of bargains through April 30 according to Editor/Publisher Jay Hartman last evening, as reported here February 28 with update March 1. But why not repeat the details from the latter? [T]he Untreed Reads Publishing 30-Percent Off March Sale . . . had its start today and will last through the whole month. Discounts apply to all Untreed Reads-published ebooks in addition to extra savings for some print editions, and now will be displayed with the titles themselves rather than only when checking out. Included are my electronic chapbooks PEDS, I’M DREAMNG OF A. . ., and VANITAS, which can be reached by clicking their pictures in the center column; the page you come to will display all three titles as well as the New Year’s Eve anthology YEAR’S END containing my story “Appointment in Time,” along with links to various other Untreed Reads offerings.
So now it’s extended for an extra month. Also other specials may come up too from time to time which, if they include any of my titles, will be reported here as well. Or as said above, you can check any time by pressing one of the three chapbooks’ pictures in the center column (all three lead to my combined Untreed Reads author page), and from which one can navigate to other Untreed Reads Publishing bargains as well.
Three short items to round out the weekend. First, Untreed Reads Publishing has announced that they’re celebrating six years of doing business (and, indeed, my first publication with them, VANITAS, a steampunk/mystery originally published by ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S MYSTERY MAGAZINE in January 1996, came out as a stand-alone chapbook in August 2011 during their first year) by having a 30 percent off sale on all Untreed Reads-published ebooks during the month of March. In addition to VANITAS, they’ve since brought out my Christmas horror short story I’M DREAMING OF A. . . ., and my dystopian near-future science fiction novelette PEDS, all of which should be covered by the discount.
If interested, pressing the picture in the center column of any of these three titles will bring a description/ordering page which also includes the New Years Eve anthology YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR, featuring my lead story “Appointment in Time.” From there, one can also click to the Untreed Reads general catalog for other authors and titles, etc. Sale prices should start Tuesday, March 1, with the 30 percent discount being applied to orders during the checkout process.
On a less happy note, this being the last Sunday of February I would normally plan to post a note on the Bloomington Writers Guild’s “Last Sunday Poetry Reading & Open Mic,” this month with guest readers JT Howard, “a fiction writer, translator and occasional poet currently working to complete an MFA in Creative Writing from Indiana University,” and Bloomington resident and recent IU graduate Harlan Kelly, who is also a founder and current host of the Bloomington Poetry Slam. However, I’ve been rather under the weather this past week and, even though it’s a lovely day outside, prudence (combined with Bloomington buses not running on Sunday) has caused me to stay home this weekend.
Finally, speaking of poetry, late Saturday brought a proof sheet from David C. Kopaska-Merkel of DREAMS AND NIGHTMARES 102, officially dated for January 2016 although possibly now one should say the Spring Issue, which I okayed and sent back last night. My poem in the potpourri is titled “Plus-Size” (cf. August 30), about an Ancient Egyptian mummy, large to begin with, that due to an excess of tana leaves just kept on growing.
Untreed Reads Publishing has announced a special 40% off sale on CyberMonday, November 30th. The sale will include all titles in all formats, including my own chapbooks, the near-future dystopic novelette PEDS, Christmas horror I’M DREAMING OF A. . . ., steampunk mystery VANITAS (originally published in ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S MYSTERY MAGAZINE), and the Untreed Reads New Year’s anthology YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR featuring my lead story “Appointment in Time.” All current promotions for the month of November will be suspended that day only and replaced by the CyberMonday sale.
To take advantage, one can click any of the three titles pictured in the center column or, for any or all four, press here to check out my author page in the Untreed Reads Store — but only on Monday! All titles then should reflect their regular prices as well as sale prices.
Jay Hartman of Untreed Reads Publishing sent this along, that OmniLit is holding a “Welcome To Summer” sale for this Saturday only, offering all titles they sell at 25 percent off. These include all four of my titles from Untreed Reads as well as one from Northern Frights Publishing. Three are chapbooks, the stand-alone short stories VANITAS and I’M DREAMING OF A. . . . and the dystopian science fiction novelette PEDS, to which are added the Untreed Reads New Year’s Eve anthology YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR, with my lead-off story “Appointment in Time,” and Northern Frights’s WAR OF THE WORLDS: FRONTLINES with my dimensional fantasy “The Candle Room.” Books are available in PDF, EPUB, and Kindle versions unless otherwise noted.
More can be found on the OmniLit site (if you wish to look for me in the search box at the upper right, use “James S. Dorr” in the “Author” category — they refuse to recognize me without my middle initial). But remember the sale is for Saturday only, June 20, ending at midnight Central Time.
May is Short Story Month and to celebrate Untreed Reads Publishing has announced a sale on all individual short stories at $0.25 each. This doesn’t include novellas, however, letting some of my titles out, but the Christmas/science fiction/horror tale “I’M DREAMING OF A. . .” is on the list and can be obtained by pressing here. And it may be especially apt for the warm weather months that are coming, with temperatures soaring into the 90s and above — what better pleasure then than to sit back and read about snow?
Also short story anthologies are on sale at 50 percent off through the end of the month which, speaking of the Christmas season, includes the New Year’s Eve anthology YEAR’S END: 14 TALES OF HOLIDAY HORROR, with my lead story “Appointment in Time.” So for more mid-summer chills just when they’ll be needed for only $1.50, click here.
Then when you’ve done that, if you wish to look into on-sale offerings by other authors, press the word “Home” in the upper left of the I’M DREAMING OF. . . or the YEAR’S END page for the Untreed Reads store with links to complete sets of sale stories by genre. The sale is good only through Untreed Reads only, but books are available in all formats, EPUB, Kindle, and PDF.
